15 reasons to visit Quebec City and its surroundings



Often overshadowed by the big sister Montreal, Quebec City has taken advantage of its charm to attract tourists from around the world. The jewel in the crown of French Canada, Quebec City is one of the oldest and most magnificent colonies of North America.

The picturesque old town is a living museum: narrow, cobbled streets, attic houses of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. The place was also a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

I suggest you visit sites and activities inevitable that beautiful city of Quebec and its surroundings. The following route will allow you to visit these places in two or three days (the time I spent on site):



1 OLD QUEBEC / OLD QUEBEC

Come to blend in with tourists from as you see and feel the inescapable atmosphere of the city of Quebec. Its old town is full of charm and memories of yesteryear. Lose yourself in the narrow streets that rise and wind. In the ramparts, the panorama offers a privileged view of the city.

2 SMALL NEIGHBORHOOD CHAMPLAIN

Walk around the neighborhood to relive Canada's history and discover the customs of the inhabitants of New France. The place is accessible via a cable car that you can enjoy views of the St. Lawrence River and the Lower Town. Very touristy, the area offers plenty of good bars and restaurants.

3 LOWER CITY / TOWN LOWER

Lower Town is rich in history and you can easily access by funicular or by the stairs Breakneck! A nice area to find out where there is good to walk and stroll around the shops and restaurants.



4 THE HIGH CITY / UPPER TOWN

As one moves from the upper town to the lower town, the city has preserved its charm. The old stones and the architecture so characteristic of the region attracts attention and transport us to another time.

5 THE PLACE ROYALE

Place Royale is a beautiful place as nice in winter than in summer. You will discover the birthplace of New France with a wonderfully preserved heritage. It is easy to walk around the place and enjoy the shops, restaurants, art galleries, artisans of all kinds and museums.

6 NOTRE DAME DE QUEBEC

The basilica is located in the historic district of Old Quebec in Quebec City, in front of city hall in Quebec City. It was classified as a historical monument in 1961 It is also the church of the oldest parish in North America! It was elevated to a minor basilica by Pope Pius IX in 1874.

WALK-7 SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN

This walk is located along the river and near the bridges of Quebec and Pierre Laporte. This is a nice park built on 2.5 kilometers which offers walkers, cyclists, roller skating enthusiasts and motorists new perspectives on the banks of the St Lawrence River.

8 PARK FALL-Montmorency

Between river and cliffs, it is one of the most spectacular sights of Quebec. With 83 meters high, the Montmorency Falls dominates the landscape. It can be accessed on foot, by car or from the Manoir Montmorency. A 20-minute drive from Quebec City (Provide a rental car or a trip).

9 THE CITADEL OF QUEBEC

The Citadel is an amazing star-shaped fortress with walls of an impressive height. Surrounded by a park, the site offers guided tours and a small museum. It must also not miss the changing of the guard, a must!

10 BATTLEFIELD PARK / PARK BATTLEFIELDS

This park was created to celebrate the tercentenary of Quebec in 1908 Very lively, it offers many activities such as outdoor concerts or the many sports in later this year.

11 WENDAKE

Located 15 kilometers from the city of Quebec, dive into the heart of Aboriginal culture with the Huron-Wendat First Nation Reserve. 12 THE FUNICULAIRE

A good original means of transport to avoid Frontenac stairs are very steep. Built in 1879, the funicular connects the Petit Champlain in Lower Town to the Dufferin Terrace at the top of Cap Diamant where you can enjoy panoramic views of the St. Lawrence River and the Lower Town.

QUEBEC CITY WALLS 13 HOCKEY

How not to go to Canada without seeing a hockey game? Number one sport in the country, Team Quebec Remparts played every game in the rink at the Pepsi Coliseum in front of over 15,000 spectators. Atmosphere guaranteed!

14 PORTE ST. LOUIS

Porte St-Louis is one of several gateways to access inside the walls of Old Quebec. At the time, these doors were built to block access to the city from all sides. Today, they have been adapted to facilitate access for cars.

15 MEGA PARK

This is the largest indoor amusement park in Quebec. come with your family or friends to enjoy a twenty rides, sixty arcades and mini-golf. A beautiful indoor rink for skating and for parties of casual hockey is at your disposal.
